Technical Folder Evaluation

Prosthetics was a completely new area of make up to study for me, which is what I found exciting about taking part in this unit. I have found learning the techniques and methods really interesting as I now feel I have a new skill that will be very useful in the industry. Learning the formula and methods for creating prosthetics as well a handling new chemicals and products has been enjoyable. Using the different silicones and products such as Prozade has been really helpful and insightful. Before starting this unit I was concerned that the process would be really complicated, however I have been surprised by its simplicity as well as how much more easy it is to create a realistic prosthetic piece. Although it was easier than I expected I was also surprised at how much I struggled when wanting to create a successful piece. On a number of occasions my Baldiez layer failed which meant that I had to redo certain pieces, such as my wound. I however think that it failing made me much better in the long term as I practised more.  I am now much more confident in my ability to work on a film or TV show where prosthetics need to be made and applied. I now feel that I have a greater understanding of what goes on in the industry also. I have enjoyed learning about the health and safety associated with the creation of prosthetics such as not mixing silicone A and B together as well as only using Petrolese and Fixing Spray by an open window. I think that learning these basic skill have made me a better make up artist as I have had to be careful for my safety, the people around me, as well as my products. Overall I am really pleased with the new set of skills I have learned and have surprised myself with how much I have enjoyed the processes involved in creating prosthetics.
