This week I had the first practice with my model. In this practice I only carried out the colour and blending elements of my design as my prosthetic pieces were not yet ready. My colour inspiration from my hybrid came from various different species of fish, as well as inspirational pictures of the artists' work. My design contains many different bright colours all blended together over the face. When I was creating my face chart I was aware that the colours did not look very fish like. I however was not concerned by this as I was creating my own character and thought that I could make my own species. However on application of the colours and my design, it was clear that it was not fish like enough. Although the blending and colours did look pretty and worked well together there were too many different colours and effects going on resulting in a mass of colour unrealistic to many natural fish. I am aware that if I had tried it with the prosthetic pieces then the overall effect may have been better and I would have been able to get a better overall grasp of my finished design, but I still don't believe that I would be happy with it. I think that I tried to be too clever with the colour choices and moved too far away from natural fish. I was also concerned that the mass of colour may mask the pieces too much into the skin and not let them show through. I now think that if I use less colours, but more tones then I can add depth and dimension to the pieces making them stand out more. Therefore I have decided that I will focus on one type of fish rather than a range of different ones. I think that this will be better as it will still allow me to use the bright colours but will be more realistic on the colour combinations of natural fish. Most fishes' colours are under one spectrum and appear in different shades, I think that using this will allow me to create a more believable hybrid.
