Practising Burns
I decided that before our first lesson of learning how to create prosthetic wounds I would practise. I was unsure of the best way, techniques and methods of how to create a second degree burn with clay but thought that it would be a useful session of familiarising myself with the clay and tools. I was not sure also of how the wound would look after the silicone was poured over the top, I assume that it would be reversed. Therefore I created the design in the clay with the idea that it would be backwards. As I was working I was looking at an image of a burn for inspiration and as an idea of shape and texture. I worked to quite a large scale just so that I was able to work more freely and easily. I appreciate that on the skin the burn that I created would be quite large. I am not sure whether to be pleased with the burn that I created as I am not sure what is expected from the designs. To me it does resemble a burn to some degree but after being made into a prosthetic could be completely wrong. I am however sure that it will be come clear after the first lesson. I think that although I have used clay and some of the tools before in my Art GCSE and Fine Art A level it was useful to use them again as I have not worked with clay for a long time. I now have more of an idea of how they can be used and what sort of effect that they create. I hope that this will therefore make me better equipped for Monday's lesson and will mean that my first attempt at a second degree burn prosthetic is of a higher quality.
