Practising 2

After my first failed practice I decided that I would try to practise my hybrid again including the changes to my chosen colour scheme and design features. I decided that after my first practice I needed to focus on one type of fish rather than that of many different species. The fish that I decided to focus on was the Purple Tang fish. I was inspired not only by the colours featured on it but also the shape of its facial features, such as the pointed mouth and dark round eyes. Whilst creating the make up this time around I made sure that I had images of the fish around me so I could refer to the colours and the shapes of it. The fish is mainly made up of the colours purple, blue and yellow.

I decided to work to the colour scheme of purples, blues and whites. Although there are bright pops of yellow on the fish I decided that I would not use these as it did not fit on my design. I however may amend my design to include them as I believe that it could be attractive. I wanted to try to create the shape of a skinny pointed cheek and lip area with the make up. I thought that this would be best achieved through contouring and using dark colours under the cheekbones and around the mouth. I wanted to highlight the contours better by adding lighter shades of blue above and below the cheekbones as well as on the centre lip. I think that this worked well as it altered the shape of my model's face and, I think, made her look more fish like. In the pervious practice I had struggled to give the face shape and dimension due to the presence of many different colours. I tried to add some darker colours in the hollows of my model's face but it ended up looking messy and muddy due to the wide range of colours. However this time it worked better due to the smaller colour range used.  After my first practise I was more negative about my hybrid and was worried that it would not work well or would look poor, however after this practice, where I believed I considered the design more I am more pleased with it. In the final assessment I also intend to run a black eye pencil around the water line and eye and also add some eyelashes to add to the idea of big fish eyes. Although I have not yet practised with the prosthetics I am now pleased with the colours schemes. Once the prosthetics are applied I would like to apply some silver to them, especially the gills, to add some dimension and interest to my pieces. I also wanted to include the idea of Bioluminescence into my design so think the use of the silver will create more of this effect. It is slightly tricky to imagine what the whole hybrid will look like in the images below as it is not being shown alongside the hair, and the colour is also being stopped under the jaw lines, whereas in the real thing it will continue down the neck. Although a little imagination has to be used I am more pleased with the outcome of these images.
